LOVE-in-a-BOX HOW-TO

PREGAME:

Before the game, the HOST should hide candy or present within the final box (RED HEART). The combo is UOTEN.

STEP ZERO:

Players should be figuring out which box that they can open first. This takes a little investigation. In this case, there are clues on the MOUTON CADET box that can lead to the code to open.

Find code on outside of MOUTON CADET box. It is hidden in a little printed “1,2, and 3” on different parts of the box. the 1 is on the fourth arrow (indicating 4), the 2 is on the word “one,” and the 3 is on the word “two.” The answer to the code is 4-1-2. It opens the MOUTON CADET BOX.

STEP ONE:

MOUTON CADET BOX - CODE: look for numbers on the box next to words, numbers, and sets of items to get 3-digit code for box

Inside box:

Stork box - locked with key (keep for later)

Wooden wine bottle - with wine and funnel inside (keep for later)

Blue heart - inside it says, “Have a sweetheart, sweetie pie” and “but first take a pill” - with a blue candy heart and blue pill (open heart box but not the pill itself. It is glued shut. It indicates something you should be looking for as you move onwards.)

Key (hidden in nook behind wooden slab, for use with heart shaped, wooden box)

STEP TWO:

WOODEN HEART BOX - KEY: look in the MOUTON CADET BOX, there is a key in a nook in the lid behind a piece of wood

Inside box:

Heart jar -filled with pills (open and take out all of the blue pills, then open them) - notice blue heart on label

Sweethearts in a locked jar (there is no key, look through the jar to read the blue heart. It reads, “CHARM”)

Wrapped box with Love Potion #5 (keep for later)

Word card (keep for later)

NOTE: taking cues of the notes inside the blue heart, open the blue pills. It says that C=2, H=5, A=4, R=1, and M=3. Then look in the glass jar and find the sweetheart that is blue. It reads, “CHARM.”

It spells out 25413

STEP THREE:

PINK SPARKLE BOX 25413- answer from the blue pills and the blue sweetheart that read, “CHARM”

Inside box:

Key on a heart-shaped lock key-chain - opens the STORK BOX

Empty pink bottle in a shiny bag with a tag on it that reads, “Love Potion #?”

Blue code breaker tool - use this for the word card that came in the WOODEN HEART BOX, slide word card into this tool to show one set of letters through the rectangular window, it reads, “ark.” These numbers have a value as seen on the outside of the code breaker tool. A=1, R=1, K=2. This combination is used to open the oval white box.

Black velvet jewelry box with charm and sound bite - open box and see a note that says, “See how it sparkles in the light.” This is because there is a photo-sensitive nodule that plays the first stanza of “Love Potion #9”. This is used for people to understand the # of the Love Potion for later use. If for some reason this doesn’t play, you can play this instead.

STEP FOUR:

WHITE OVAL BOX 112 - opened by using the word key to spell out “ark” then using the cardboard key to figure out the letter values

Inside box:

Paintbrush - save for later

Locked black bag 528 - opened later but eventually found by identifying the color of the Love Potion #9 color (red) and using the letter values from the key from inside the white oval box. (save for later)

Cipher - glued into box lid (this is for later to decipher the color RED into a three digit code- 528)

STEP FIVE:

STORK BOX - key on heart-shaped lock key chain and inside the PINK SPARKLY BOX

Inside box:

Love Potion #4 - in sealed bottle with red Koolaid powder

Hersey Kisses - with notes in each one (see below)

Note - “Fairy tales will often say that love is borne of wishes. In practice though the answer seems, to hide in love and KISSES.” It indicates that there are clues inside the Hershey Kisses.

STEP SIX:

Make a batch of LOVE POTION #9 - as the last Hershey’s Kiss says. WARNING THE CONTENTS MIGHT STAIN.

This involves taking out the bottles of LOVE POTION #4 and LOVE POTION #5 and the WINE and mixing all of them in the empty pink bottle. This will result in a red liquid. Using the key code on the lid of the WHITE OVAL BOX, find the code equivalent for RED, 528.

Then open the black bag.

STEP SEVEN:

BLACK BAG 528 - there is a cipher in the STORK box, and a note on the lock that reads, “COLOR of LOVE POTION #9”, the color was RED and this translated to the numbers 528

Inside bag:

A missive that reads, “JUST ADD LOVE POTION#9”

Using the paintbrush, paint the love potion all over the MISSIVE. It should reveal that certain letters have been circled in white crayon and resist the paint. The letters revealed will be UOTEN

STEP EIGHT:

HEART SHAPED CANDY BOX (UOTEN) - paint the LOVE POTION #9 on the MISSIVE, read the revealed code (circled letters)
