EARRINGS
Once belonging to Frederick Hamilton Blackwood, First Marquess of Dufferin and Ava, these silver and diamond earrings boast a remarkable history and a comfortable 15 carats each. While the honorable Marquess Blackwood parted with the jewels for reasons, unknown, they came to belong to the wealthy Canadian jeweler Ridaford Smythe in the early 1900’s and were eventually ceded to his son Jordon Smythe by 1930. As it turns out, the modern jeweler’s loupe revealed an almost imperceptible flaw that decreased the jewels’ market value and kept them from sale for 26 more years. Mrs. Deodora Enwhistle came to own this pair by way of trade during an early trip to Canada in 1986. In exchange, she gave over a two pound, sterling silver belt buckle fashioned to resemble the claws and beak of a turkey vulture.
