Created by Isle au Haut native, Roy Litchenstein in 1953, this hat received the prestigious Gonginheim prize for its realistic depiction of the classic peony. The hat was a presented to Mrs. Deodora Entwhistle in 1957, on the day of her first anniversary, by her father-in-law Mr. Erstwhile Enwhistle II, famed gentleman blacksmith of New Paltz, New York.
