Cross Country Treasure Hunt - Level One
GET READY TO GO CROSS COUNTRY
We’ve taken the escape room outdoors and all around town. This hunt will take 2-3 hours, depending on your speed. You’ll get a password for CLUE ONE automatically after registration. Please play between 9 am and 8pm. Click HERE to purchase a ticket.
Before we begin, let’s go over the things you will need to complete your task. First, you will need a car (or a bike) to get by. The clues are miles apart and not recommended for walking. Some (as in this first clue) are grouped in clusters. That means that you will drive to a location but spend some time there, finding multiple messages in a single place. Others contain just one clue per location. All clues are meant to stay exactly where you found them. We recommend taking pictures of the clues, because the actual clues should remain behind for others to find. You will also need a pen and a notebook. Also helpful are devices that can locate GPS coordinates. Most phones can do this with an app. We have provided hints on our website to access below but remember, Vermont does not always have good cell reception. The first hint is subtle, the second basically gives it away in case of complete frustration. Good luck.
ITEMS NEEDED:
Car or bike for transportation
Well-charged smart phone (a must have for taking pictures of clues)
Downloaded GPS onto phone
Pen and Paper
Hand sanitizer (for wiping yourself down after touching clues)
DANGER and BAD BEHAVIOR
Please play responsibly. That means NO climbing on unstable surfaces, driving on inappropriate roads, entering into locked or abandoned buildings, breaking property, or participating in otherwise bad or dangerous behavior. We want you to be safe and lawful.
HINTS
We know that there is a contingency among you who prefer the raw and difficult version of our escape rooms. For this reason, we have listed the most difficult version of the clue first, and created a system of hints to help people who are wanting more direction. We expect you to use knowledge from locals, the internet, and other sleuthing to figure out the answers but if you need more, including GPS coordinates, then we have you covered. Generally speaking the first hint offers a GPS coordinate and and a more helpful but still vague hint. The second hint gives more away but still requires that you go to the site in order to obtain the next clue. Hints are available through our website but keep in mind, internet service goes in and out around here do you might have to seek out coverage. Also, these are all password protected. PASSWORDS ARE ALWAYS IN ALL CAPS.
ACTIVITIES and CONTESTS
To make it more fun, we are working on incorporating a couple of optional activities into the mix. These are quick and fun and a way to interact in this time of social distancing. A couple of these activities are parts of larger contests, so make sure you keep your eyes peeled and take your PHONES to record images as necessary.
THE CLUES
Ideally you should only need the link to the very first clue since the rest of the clues lead into each other but in case you get lost here they are. You will need passwords to get into them which are available along the hunt.
